First Thoughts Consulting was founded in 2021 by Eric First, M.D. FAIS.
Dr. First serves as our President. Dr. First is a highly accomplished healthcare executive with over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and consumer health industries.
His experience encompasses a vast array of therapeutic areas and across more than 35+ major brands, such as BOTOX and Bayer Aspirin.
Dr. First has extensive experience in Medical Affairs, Patient Access, Compliance operations and processes, and 20 years ago, he created the first MSL Team fully dedicated to Patient Access initiatives. He has established and managed several new Medical Affairs Departments in companies ranging from early stage, pre-launch, to large, well-established entities.
In addition to his Medical Affairs experience, Dr. First is also regarded as an expert in the innovation process and product development. During his career, he has screened and performed due diligence on 100's of products both from the buy and sell sides. He holds numerous patents for consumer, and pharmaceutical products, medical devices, new therapeutic indications, and product development and manufacturing processes.
Some highlighted commercial product related IP examples include: BOTOX, Dysport, Bayer Aspirin, Aleve, Citracal, Bepanthen, Y-90 Sir Spheres, RELiZORB, and R3SET.
Dr. First has extensive experience with start-ups, as a founder of multiple companies, having participated in numerous fundraising rounds, road shows and seed to later stage A-D rounds; interacting with private equity, venture capital, and investment banks; and is a regular participant in the Boardroom.
Additionally, Dr. First has experience in Post-merger integration, structuring/managing R&D Departments, large multi department, multi-national teams, US/International department harmonization projects, as well as New Department integration.
Over the years, Dr First has held increasing executive positions including; Senior Medical Director, National Medical Director, VP Medical Affairs, VP Global Innovation & New Product Development, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Compliance Officer,, Chief Development Officer and Head of R&D.
Dr First has particular expertise in the following Therapeutic areas: Neurology, with a focus on; general pain, neuropathic pain, central / peripheral pain, headache/migraine, arthritis (OA/RA) pain, neuropathies, inflammation, neuro-inflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, movement disorders, autonomic disorders), Psychiatry; Depression, Schizophrenia, Autism, Chronic Depression and related mood disorders, Stress Response, Clinical Nutrition. and Botulinum toxin treatment for numerous conditions.
Dr. First aligns closely with the Executive Leadership Teams to comprehend strategy and executes only R&D and medical-related activities that will enhance the lives of patients and propel business success.
